OUR INVESTIGATION:

Tracking Tunnels

Tracking Tunnels

Once we had researched and build up our knowledge of pests and how to track them - we got to work.  Tamsin helped us set up a system so the tracking tunnels were checked and inforamation recorded.

Our investigation was important as we needed to see what pests there were in our school grounds (we even took a tunnel home to see what there was in our own home area).

Max was puzzled by the insect footprints and wanted to know more so he invented a "Footprint Finder".  Enjoy his explanation in 3 videos posted on this page.

After we gathered and discussed our Tracking Tunnel Results we made an Action Plan.

Tracking Tunnel Time

We needed to investigate what pests actually lived on our school grounds so tracking tunnels were set.

Monitoring our Tunnels

Tamsin helped us learn how to read tracks to gather data about what visited our tracking stations so we knew what pests were present.

Hedgehogs at Work

Our investigation showed that we have quite a few hedgehogs in our school grounds. We will need to investigate this more to see the impact it will have on our environment - especially any birds.

Tracking Our Tunnels

Each week we have been checking our tracking tunnels with Tamsin and recording our data. It was hard to figure out what insects had been through the tunnel so Max made his own insect "foot finder" to see what insects left what footprints.

Doing the paperwork

Paperwork is part of and research and investigation so tracking cards were all numbered and regularly filled in by the team.
